19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player secured his initial title for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a former world number one, has had a challenging period, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in particular - led to him exiting of the top ten and finally separating with former trainer his previous coach.

Presently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive win over challenger Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt after spring of that year.

Success also indicates he has achieved 21 victories at 21 distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my children at once, so to win a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, featuring in that event in the past months.

His defensive approach and frequent emotional displays on court had led some to question if his capacity to play at the elite level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an better serving game.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial ATP Tour title, gained dominance to force a final set.

The opponent defended 4 early-game opportunities in a tight third set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, he clinched the win with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
